Marley (2012)

I finally had a chance to view the trailer for the "Marley" documentary that has been circling the web, and I cannot wait to watch it in its entirety. Bob Marley's music has played an instrumental role in helping to mobilize people in their individual and collective struggles. Not only was Bob Marley a talented musician, but he was a social activist and a revolutionary whose music still resonates in the hearts and souls of many.  His album Exodus was ranked 169 in Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time (Rolling Stone), and in 1999 was voted by Time Magazine as the most important album of the 20th century. He used his art to make an impact on the lives of the oppressed and continues to do so many years after his death. In the trailer, he states "My richness is life," a short life, but a life well lived.

His influence is descirbed by the movie's director Kevin MacDonald : "You go anywhere in the world in particular I went to Kampala and Uganda and when I shot "The Last King of Scotland" there and I went to the slums there and realized there was like a whole community of Rastas. There were portraits of Bob and murals and his lyrics up on the walls and you thought this guy sort of speaks to people in a profound way, in a philosophical way, to such an extent that they're living their lives partly guided by what he says. There is no other musician who has had that kind of effect around the world." source

Check out the trailer.

The movie is scheduled to be in theaters April 20 2012. For more information refer to http://www.bobmarley.com/marley_the_movie.php
