Nairobi: The True African Original Hub

This weekend I attended Kenya's first Etsy Craft Party hosted by Craft Afrika. It was a super event with great energy, and was a space in which creatives were able to interact and showcase their work.

One of the highlights of the day, though there were many, was the appearance by Zack from the Bring Zack Home campaign. I was most struck by his eyes that told the story of his journey, but was equally floored by his humble and magnetic charm that won the hearts of many. All proceeds from the event went to the campaign, towards their goal of raising Kshs 250 million to build a spinal cord injury rehabilitation centre in Kenya.

There were so many more True African Originals at the event, several craft entrepreneurs and all around movers and shakers in the art world.

Craft Afrika did a phenomenal job in putting this event together. Their mission is to support and promote craft entrepreneurs through various strategies including offering business skills training and mentoring, facilitating networking platforms and making available information that directly impacts on these enterprises.
